Seasons in Lapland
There are four main seasons in Lapland: winter, spring, summer and autumn. Each one of them changes the landscape and provides different opportunities for activities.
Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, is a light phenomenon around the North Pole that is observable between September and April. Auroras are produced when the Earth's magnetosphere is disturbed by solar winds.
The Finnish word for this phenomenon is revontuli, “fox fire”. The ancient belief in the region was that when a fox runs, its tail would touch the snow and send sparkles to the sky, creating the Auroras.
